FRANK O'MALLeY

Frank O’Mally – Character Breakdown

Full Name: Frank O’Mally
Occupation: Investigative Reporter at Silver City Satellite News
Age: Late 30s – Early 40s
Personality: Charismatic, street-smart, morally flexible, ambitious but reckless

Backstory & Personality:

Frank O’Mally is Mike Walker’s colleague and, for the most part, his friend—but that friendship is tested throughout Black Doors. Unlike Mike, who is jaded and struggling with guilt, Frank is more of a survivor. He’s opportunistic, always looking for ways to get ahead, even if it means bending the rules. He’s witty, smooth-talking, and knows how to navigate Silver City’s underworld just as well as he does a newsroom.

Frank enjoys the perks of his job—access to exclusive events, connections with shady people, and, most importantly, the thrill of chasing a story that could make him rich and famous. But he’s not above getting his hands dirty, and sometimes, his ambition leads him to make questionable decisions.

Role in Black Doors

Frank is the one who encourages Mike to chase the story of the mysterious murders in Silver City, but as the investigation unfolds, he becomes more and more entangled in the supernatural elements of the Black Doors. Unlike Mike, who starts off skeptical, Frank seems to know more than he lets on.

It’s later revealed that Frank has been involved with Sabrina and the Black Doors for a long time. He made a deal with Sabrina, hoping to gain power and wealth, but it backfired. To escape his fate, he agrees to betray Mike—offering him up as a sacrifice. This betrayal marks a turning point, showing Frank’s true desperation and willingness to do whatever it takes to save himself.

However, as the story progresses, Frank starts to have second thoughts. His greed and fear clash, and he realizes that he may have set something in motion that he cannot control. Whether he redeems himself or meets a gruesome fate depends on how the story unfolds.

Key Relationships:

  • Mike Walker: His closest (and only real) friend, but their relationship is built on shaky ground. Frank sees Mike as both a drinking buddy and a rival. Their dynamic shifts when Frank betrays Mike, and the fallout is deadly.

  • Sabrina: Frank made a deal with her, thinking he could outsmart her. He was wrong. She holds him in her grip, and he spends much of the story trying to escape her control.

  • Nighttime: A mysterious figure who warns Frank about the danger he’s in. Nighttime offers him a way out, but Frank’s greed might prevent him from taking it.

Fate:

Frank’s arc is one of survival vs. betrayal. He is given multiple chances to do the right thing, but his self-preservation instinct often gets in the way. His ultimate fate depends on whether he redeems himself or falls deeper into the abyss of the Black Doors.
