Jake Owen is a towering, mean-spirited enforcer with a reputation for settling disputes with his fists—or worse. Standing at 6’5” and over 300 pounds, he’s built like a wrecking ball and has the attitude to match.

Covered in tattoos, reeking of motor oil, sweat, and cheap whiskey, Jake is a fixture in Silver City’s underbelly. He’s the kind of man people don’t make eye contact with, not unless they’re looking to get their skull cracked.

He’s known for his short fuse—a single insult, a wrong look, even a bad pool shot could set him off. He thrives on intimidation, violence, and the knowledge that no one dares to stop him.

Jake isn’t just a brute, though—he’s connected. He runs with one of Silver City’s most dangerous biker gangs, making him untouchable by the law.

However, even a man as dangerous as Jake doesn’t realize what he’s playing with when he crosses paths with the Black Doors.

Jake starts off as just another dangerous thug, but his violent tendencies make him an easy pawn for the forces at play.

• Early in the story, he murders a man in cold blood at the Hollow Bottle Bar, in front of Mike Walker. The police cover it up, proving that Silver City operates on its own brutal form of justice.
   
• He later crosses paths with Sabrina, unaware of **who—**or **what—**he’s dealing with.
   
• He underestimates the supernatural and tries to assert dominance over something far beyond his understanding.
   

This mistake seals his fate.

• Mike Walker: Mike has had past run-ins with Jake, barely escaping with his life. Jake sees Mike as a “washed-up reporter” and doesn’t take him seriously. However, when Mike starts uncovering the truth about the Black Doors, Jake is dragged into the nightmare alongside him.
   
• Frank O’Mally: Frank is smart enough to avoid Jake whenever possible, knowing he’s too unpredictable to trust.
   
• Sabrina: The woman who ultimately breaks him. At first, Jake sees Sabrina as just another conquest—a dangerous mistake.
   

Jake’s story is one of hubris meeting horror. He believes he is the biggest predator in Silver City—until he learns that he was never even close.

How does he die?
After attempting to threaten or overpower Sabrina, she toys with him, leading him into the Black Doors.

Inside, he realizes too late that he is not the one in control.

• He is forced to relive every violent act he’s ever committed—but this time, he’s the victim.
   
• Every bone he’s ever broken is broken again—on his own body.
   
• He is hunted by monstrous versions of his past victims, unable to escape the cycle of suffering he created.
   
• In his final moments, he screams for mercy—something he has never given to anyone else.
   

Jake disappears from the real world, and his name is never spoken again.

However, inside the Black Doors… he’s still suffering.
